Daily Bread

Have you ever noticed that when God is trying to get our attention about something, we often hear the same scripture, word or phrase repeated on many different occasions? Recently the Lord identified something in my past that had become a stumbling block in my relationship with Him. Through a significant time of prayer with another I came to understand that Jesus is always with me in the person of the Holy Spirit, not in a nebulas shapeless presence, but in the shape and person of Jesus. This revelation had been transforming for me.

As I finished praying, a friend sent me a two minute video by Louie Giglio, I listened and the first words were from Joshua 1:5,
“As I was with Moses, so I will be with you.”
Wow, how significant! The timing of my receiving this was perfect and yes, Jesus had my attention; this was at least the third time in a few days that I’d heard this verse.

When Jesus teaches His disciples to pray He says we should ask for ‘our daily bread’, which we know to be physical food but also the living, powerful word of God. A few weeks ago Mark Iles talked about ‘the battle for your mind’ and reminded us to protect ourselves from the lies of the enemy by focusing on the truth from our Heavenly Father. Throughout  Advent, perhaps we could start each day with a Bible verse that we then carry with us - a way we can take up the word of God, so from the moment we wake up we are armed with His powerful sword of truth.
