“If I believed even a tenth of the gospel…”

Eleanor Mumford is the former Vineyard UK & Ireland National Director (and the grandmother everyone secretly wants) who shared the final message at the Vineyard Leaders’ Gathering (VLG) last night, speaking about the church: why we love it, why we need it, why we are it. In her message, she shared a quote from Matthew Parris at The Times:

If I believed what Christians say about the possibility of knowing God, or even if I believed a tenth of it, how could I care which version of the Prayer Book was being used? I would drop my job, I would sell my house, I would throw away my possessions, I would leave my acquaintances, and I would set out on the world burning with desire to know more. And when I had found out more, to act upon it and tell others. I am unable to understand how anyone who believed what is written in the Bible could choose to spend his waking hours in any other endeavour.

There is strong resistance to the good news of Jesus in our culture, but those same people who reject him also desperately need him in ways they don’t acknowledge. They need the life that only Jesus can bring, requiring us to plant the seeds of the gospel that only he can grow. Join us tomorrow as Niamh teaches on Sunday for the first time, sharing how the kingdom of God is like seeds. We had a wonderful time at the VLG and will share more of what we learned soon. You’re also welcome to watch Debbie Wright(current Vineyard UK & Ireland National Director) speak about her trip to Asbury and our desire for God to break into our nation.
