The Life Of Try

During the Vineyard Leaders' Gathering last month, we listened to a talk by Jordan Seng from Bluewater Mission Church in Hawaii entitled ‘The Life of Try.’ He was urging us to cultivate a culture of ‘trying’ in our churches, in our small groups, and even in our families. Put simply he said faith is spelt TRY. TRY is about taking risks, stepping out of our comfort zone and being brave for the kingdom of God. It’s about being willing to practice, and the more we’re prepared to try the more we’ll see happen. It’s most definitely not about getting everything right and seeing miracles every time we step out!

Here are some of his tips on the life of try:

  1. Know how to fail - don’t expect to get everything right every time.

  2. Know that it happens in the midst of life - look for opportunities to try.

  3. Know that it has to be a part of our daily routine.

This week I visited my dentist and my hygienist was telling me about the pain that she had in her knee. As I lay there listening I felt a prompting to pray for her. At the end of my appointment I asked her if I may pray for her, and she replied, ‘of course’, I asked if I could lay my hand on her knee and I prayed a short simple prayer asking Jesus to heal her. I must confess that I felt a bit awkward and a bit tongue tied, but at the end of the day, I TRIED!

Let’s be a people who step out in the everyday supernatural, let’s share our successes and our failures, but most importantly of all, let’s TRY!
