Making More Room for God

As we continue to explore what God is saying to us in the 8 Bible passages explored in this article about life in Christ, I’m struck by the number of times it’s emphasised in and immediately surrounding these passages that we must ask Jesus for what we want and he will give to us (John 14:13-14; John 15:7-8,16; Philippians 4:6; 1 John 3:21-22; 1 John 5:14-15). As long as our expectations are in Jesus and what he has promised to us in his Word, our expectations can never be too high. We also believe God continues to confirm the vision he has given to us, that we are to see more people transformed by the love of God. Let’s continue to press into God’s best for us and ask questions like the ones below so our entire lives make more room for his grace.

In our Sunday meetings, small group, friendships, and in our own prayer times…

  • Are we allowing God’s truth revealed in scripture to change our lives, so we increasingly break free from patterns of sin and walk in greater obedience to God?

  • Are we experiencing more of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, bearing the fruit of love, joy, and peace, and growing in unity?

  • Is God’s kingdom breaking into the lives of those who desperately need him?

Because we desire to make more room for God to act, we are introducing the following changes to our Sunday meetings, beginning tomorrow:

  • Reintroducing Service Leaders, who will pray with those teaching and leading worship and prayer ministry - to listen and respond to what the Holy Spirit is doing during the whole meeting.

  • Actively inviting God’s work, so more people will ask for and receive healing and pray for others to be healed. We’re also inviting more people to hear and respond to what God is saying to us - through prophecy and words of knowledge.

  • Sharing announcements at the beginning of the meeting, so there will be less disruption to what God is doing during and at the end of worship.

  • Inviting more testimonies so we can celebrate what God is doing!

  • Communion will continue to be celebrated on the first Sunday of the month but will be after worship and before the teaching, instead of at the end of the meeting.

  • Better communication, so everyone knows what we’re doing and why.

  • Treasure Seekers will meet in the English room from 10 - 10:15am prior to the Sunday meeting to pray and listen to what God is saying to us.

We encourage greater expectation and much more grace as we make more room for God, learning to listen more closely to one another and to him.
