Trusting God In The Permacrisis

Psalm 91:1-2
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.'

Collins Dictionary’s 2022 word of the year is permacrisis: ‘an extended period of instability and insecurity, especially one resulting from a series of catastrophic events.’ Brexit, COVID, the turnover of Prime Ministers, the war in Ukraine, inflation and the cost of energy crisis, climate disaters, and other global insecurities can leave us feeling like we’re living in an unending storm.

Jesus was born into a family and a people who were experiencing permacrisis. He did not come to remove all those crises, but to create a people for himself who could thrive within any crisis. We who are forgiven, reconciled to God, empowered by his Spirit, and established in his kingdom as true sons and daughters can ‘dwell in the shelter of the Most High, and rest in the shadow of the Almighty.’
